Academicians from 7 Islamic Universities in Indonesia gathered in Friday, 12 February 2016. In this event held in MIHI Study Hall , Postgraduate Building UMY, they had idea to create Indonesian Islamic Scholars and International Relations Association (INSIERA).
The creation of this association is to be a vessel to connect Islamic Studies and International Relations. As we know, all the time International Relations discourse is dominated by Western perspectives. While several countries like China and India have begun developing International Relations discourse with non-western perspective.
Dr. Surwandono as coordinator of this association said optimistically that INSIERA will be develops just as other epistemic community.
“With the gathering of peoples having concern towards Islamic Studies and International Relations, I am optimistic that we will not having feeling that we are alone, we will be sharing and strengthening with the other.”
On this occasion held with this focus group discussion, is also confirmed that INSIERA is and inclusive association, ready to cope anyone interested with Islamic Studies and International Relations. This head of MIHI having many efforts in Islamic political discourse and Islamic world issues stressed that the role of INSIERA as association is to give optimal merit in enhancement of scientific capacity also organizational skill towards all the member.
Though very simple, this event could discuss important agenda of association related to organization’s name, legal standing, working program, and network. This event began at 09.00 WIB, intercalated by Jum’at prayer and completed in ‘Ashar Prayer time. All the participants unanimous to make INSIERA as center of excellence for Islanic Studies discourse in correlations with International Relations studies
